Not fall yet
River up a bit higher after recent rain. Spotted a lot of turtles, a beaver, great horned owls, and a gray heron.
Painted turtle
River levels keep going down, as is normal as the summer goes on. No blockages at the moment.
Saw a gray heron on the river, which is a first. Also spotted great horned owls, painted turtles, and sandpipers.
Sunny day on the river
Recent rain seems to have moved a bunch of large branches around, blocking the river at a point. Cleared a path through this section but will return another day to clear it out further.
Spotted a great horned owl and a white-tailed deer.
Great horned owl in a tree
Spotted a pair of great horned owls. Did some clearing of a tree that fell recently. Beaver dam is still navigable, but will not be if the water goes much lower.
Beaver lodge
Water is back down to normal levels. Cleared some problematic areas. A beaver has built a lodge near the end of the run; didn't see him, but could hear movement inside as I passed by.
Unfortunately, a local landowner has cleared a lot of trees near the start of the run. Will be following up with municipal council regarding this issue.
Large painted turtle on a log
Went all the way down the old river path. Moved and cut some logs, but nothing that prevented passage. A beaver jumped into the water as I passed by.
Two painted turtles basking in the sun
Water is within the banks now, but still high. Entire run is navigable, but may require further clearing as the water goes down.
Beaver grooming itself on the banks
Water still high. Things are much greener now. Looks like a beaver's in the area this year!
Cleared some potential trouble spots and debris.
Still overflowing the banks
Water is still high but dropped about a foot since last week. Navigable, but still working on clearing debris. Caught a brief glimpse of a mink.
Spotted Sandpiper
Water is very high but is not fast-flowing. Cleared some debris from the flood and the entire run is navigable. Not very green yet aside from the painted turtles.
